Steel is one of the most common loads we handle. RSJs going into kitchen extensions, loft conversions, knock-throughs and structural alterations make up a steady proportion of our weekly work, and we have been doing this kind of delivery for long enough to know that the lift matters as much as the haulage. A 200kg beam dropped on the front pavement of a terraced street is a problem, not a delivery. A beam lifted cleanly over the property and lowered into the structural opening is a job finished.
We work for builders, structural engineers and homeowners on small to mid-sized residential structural projects right across Kent. Typical jobs are single beams or small bundles destined for an extension, a loft conversion, a party-wall opening, or a beam-and-column replacement of a loadbearing wall. We also handle small fabricated frames — steel goal-post frames for wide openings, lintels for door replacements, and the kind of one-off structural steelwork that comes out of a local fabricator's yard. Heavier and longer commercial loads run on the same crane-equipped lorries, with the on-board crane doing the lift at both ends — covered in more detail below.
The lift itself is the bit that customers care about. We collect from the steelyard or fabricator, transport to your site, and lift the beam directly into position — through a window opening if the structure is already framed, over a rear extension if the opening is in the back, or onto an upper floor scaffold for a loft conversion. Where the beam needs installing into a precise pocket in a wall, we coordinate with your bricklayer or builder so the lift lines up with their schedule. Most residential beam drops are under an hour on site.
On compliance: every beam we lift is handled under LOLER and our operators are ALLMI CSCS certified. We carry full public liability cover, which matters on residential streets and party-wall jobs where neighbours' property is a few metres away. If your structural engineer has issued a method statement, send it through and we will work to it.
Structural Steel We Deliver
As well as residential RSJs, we run heavier and longer commercial steel loads with the on-board crane doing the lift at both ends — including the galvaniser return run that catches a lot of jobs out. Steel coming back from a hot-dip galvanising bath normally has to wait for a separate haulier; we can handle the full triangle of fabricator, galvaniser and final site under one booking. From our Kent base near the M2, M20 and M25 we cover local same-day work and longer runs across the UK.
A working list of the steel loads we handle in a typical week:
- Universal beams and universal columns to standard BS lengths
- RSJs for kitchen extensions, knock-throughs and loft conversions
- RHS and SHS box section, including longer architectural lengths
- Angle iron, channel and flat bar for fabricators
- Fabricated goal-post frames and portal frame components
- Welded brackets, baseplates and connection pieces
- Structural decking sheets and shear stud rails

Steel Beam Delivery FAQs
Can you collect the steel from my fabricator?
Yes. Tell us the fabricator's address and contact, the beam specification and weight, and the destination site. We will handle collection, transport and the lift into position.
How heavy a beam can you lift?
Most residential RSJs are well within our cranes' capacity. Our vehicles cover roughly 1 to 6 tonnes lifting capacity, depending on the model and the reach required at the destination.
Do you lift the beam into the structural opening?
Yes — that is the point of the service. We lift directly into position rather than just dropping off on the pavement. Coordinate the timing with your bricklayer or builder so the opening is ready.
Do you work to a structural engineer's method statement?
Absolutely. If your engineer has issued a method statement or lift plan, send it across and we will work to it. We can also provide site-specific lift plans through our lift plans service.
